You probably think that if Pfizer or Wall Mart or some other private developer is going to profit from grabbing private land that they must be footing the bill right? Don't bet on it. Taxpayer monies are usually the first and largest sums spent on land grabs. In the case of the New London swindle, Phizer has already gotten 24 acres of prime waterfront land for $10. They were given a ten year 80% reduction in city real-estate taxes and $3,000,000/year reduction in sales taxes related to construction costs. So who is footing the bill here and who is reaping huge windfall profits while the little people suffer?

"They've never been against the development, They just want to be a part of it." Scott Bullock, an attorney for the Institute for Justice the law firm that represented the Fort Trumbull homeowners

As Jacob Sullum of Townhall.com said "The collectivist logic here is worthy of a Soviet central planner: The government decides what "the public interest" is and allocates resources accordingly, without regard to the private plans of the individuals who happen to own those resources. It's OK if people are hurt in the process, because on balance, the welfare of the group will improve"
